This Is My Father's World
Hello Edgemont Church Family!
I want to share a bit of encouragement from one of our great hymns. The hymn is number 144 in our hymnal, This Is My Father’s World. It is a wonderful hymn that we have had for roughly 120 years, written by Maltbie Babcock. I was looking over that hymn this morning and the third verse really spoke to me:
This is my Father’s world. O let me ne’er forget
That though the wrong seem oft so strong,
God is the ruler yet.
This is my Father’s world: why should my heart be sad? The Lord is King; let the heavens ring!
God reigns; let the earth be glad!

This was a well needed reminder to me that when I am feeling overwhelmed, when the world keeps coming at me at full speed, or maybe I’m have to linger in an uncomfortable place; God is still there, still with me. Jesus told the disciples in John 14:15-21,
“If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
Remember that God will not leave us alone in this time of social distancing. This is still the Father’s world and His Spirit is with us. Let us be encouraged dear church family and let us do as much as we can to encourage one another.
He is Risen!
