An Evening With Zack Hunt

End-times theology. The Rapture. Dispensationalism.

Are you a Christian and have no idea what these things are? Good news. You are probably in the majority. Thankfully, we have Zack Hunt to shed some light on these subjects.

In his new book Unraptured: How End Times Theology Gets It Wrong, not only does Zack tell about his personal experience with this particular vein of the theology but he also teaches us about the theology itself. If you like to combine comedy and theology (and, let’s be honest, who doesn’t?), you are in for a treat because that is exactly how Zack delivers it.*

You don’t have to stop at just reading his book, though. You can hear him speak in person. He will be a guest speaker at Edgemont UMC on Thursday, August 29th at 7 PM. This event is open to the public. So, invite your friends, family, coworkers, and strangers.

I’m excited about this event because I think it gives us an opportunity to provide a different perspective in the Shoals area regarding end-times theology. I’ve heard stories of people leaving their Christian faith because they began to question end-times theology and found it lacking. They didn’t know there was an alternative. I believe we can show the people of the Shoals area the beauty of God’s calling in the here and now, not in some far off future. I believe we can offer opportunities for the people of the Shoals area to raise questions about what they have been taught about Christianity. It is my hope that this event with Zack Hunt is just the first in a long line of such opportunities.

So, whether you have zero interest in end-times theology or you can’t get enough of it, I encourage you to read Zack’s book and attend the event. I hope that it will give you some insight into the perspectives held by the proponents of this theology and equip you to have a deep dialogue with them.

Before they are raptured, of course.

*At the time of this writing, I am only part way through chapter four. What can I say? I had to write this blog entry whether I was done with the book or not. I hope he continued being funny through the rest of the book or I just told a lie on a church blog. #NotGood
